Moving Into 2019 - My Playlist

Happy New Year! It is the first of January and I am ready (as ready as I can be) to make 2019 as good a year as 2018 was for me. We will see how that fares as we go through the rest of year but at least my intentions are good! Here is my music playlist for 2019...

1. Growing Pains - Alessia Cara (BRAVVO Remix)
Looking back on 2018, it was a year for growing up (well, as someone who has stayed 5"0 feet since Year 7, I've definitely grown UP, I am really meaning maturity!) I have matured a lot over this past year, from finally working out my own personal tastes to facing some pretty adult decisions and situations.

2. 18 - Five Seconds Of Summer
This month I will be turning eighteen - a milestone that I have mixed emotions about TBH! This song was more of a fun way to acknowledge my impending birthday.
Plus who doesn't like a little bit of 5SOS? Coming from a biased, die hard fan!

3. Successful - Ariana Grande
This year will be the start of my career so I will be officially "adult-ing" as I like to call it. I still feel so young in some ways and a lot of my friends won't be starting a full-time job as early as me which is slightly worrying. This song is the incredible Ariana Grande reminding me that:

"Yeah, it feels so good to be so young
And have this fun and be successful, yeah
I'm so successful, yeah"
(I am joking about BTW)
4) This Is Me - Keala Settle
Apologies for the cliche addition to my New Year's playlist. Believe me, I too am conflicted with the irritation caused by how many times this song has been played since The Greatest Showman was released and my deep love of the movie and all its songs! I think the reason for including This Is Me, is because this year, I really want to accept myself for who I truly am, instead of conforming to what I think people expect of me which has been difficult in previous years.

5) Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles
This song is there to acknowledge the tough times that I know are ahead of me in this coming year. I am not blind to the fact that there will be bad moments in the future, there always will be in everyone's lives and I hope that this song helps you feel a bit better about this reality much like it does me. This song is a reminder that there will be good times and relief following the hard times - the sun will come out once again.

6) One Call Away - Charlie Puth
This song is a bit of a cringe addition to my 2019 playlist but seeing as it's my first new year where I am in a proper relationship, it made sense to include it! As the one and only Charlie Puth himself has said, he "wanted to make an anthem for everyone in a long distance relationship or just someone they haven't seen in awhile is just one call away." (MTV 2015) So excuse me for being kind of "ew" but seeing as my boyfriend lives in New Zealand currently, and I haven't seen him face-to-face in months I thought it was relevant! Although, the song is also relevant in my life right now because as of last year I have a lot of friends (particularly a couple of close ones) who live further away.

7) Afterglow - Wilkinson
I have always loved this song and for once I feel like it fits in with how my life seems to be recently and in the months to come. The term 'afterglow' can be used to explain "the good feeling or effects that remain after an event", as Collins Dictionary says (we are skipping over all the dirty definitions I stumbled across!) I think this is definitely a something that I am experiencing after the highlights of 2018.

8) Lighthouse - Rend Collective
As a Christian, I want to include a worship song which has rung true for me throughout the majority of  my life and I know I will need in order to inspire myself to keep going in my faith. From my personal experience, the lyrics resonate:

"In my wrestling and in my doubts,
In my failures You won't walk out"

God has always been my peace and will continue to be my peace, I just need to stick with Him.

9) Strip - Little Mix
Of course I had to include a girl power single in this playlist! This song is there for all the times where I feel unconfident in myself and my body and I hope that it will encourage you as well.
I am fed up with always wanting a different body type or physical features and comparing myself with others - it is something that everyone (boys and girls alike) have experienced. This will be the year where I accept my small boobs and teenage-like complexion - thanks to Little Mix's new anthem!

High Hopes - Panic! At The Disco
The last song on my Moving Into 2019 playlist sums up how I am going to approach the new year:

"Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living"

Me too, Brendon Urie! I have always had high hopes and dreams for how my life will unfold and I think I am finally ready to  fulfill some of those hopes and goals in the coming year of 2019.

Well, this has been my first post on this blog, I hope you liked my perspective on some songs you have probably heard several times before. If you have your own songs that are inspiring you to  move into 2019 then please comment them down below! Until next time... xx
